AGERPRES special correspondent Florin Stefan reports: The participation in this session of the UN General Assembly represents an opportunity for us to present Romania's point of view on regional security in particular and to be in contact with other leaders on topics of interest to us, President Nicusor Dan stated on Monday evening in New York.

Asked at a briefing with the Romanian journalists about the priorities at the UN General Assembly where he is attending the high-level segment, Nicusor Dan suggested that the main priority is the security of the region.

'It is an annual meeting, but this year it is very much focused on the security area, and Romania, obviously, lives in a region where there are security challenges and we want to present Romania's position on this issue and, obviously, to be in contact with other leaders to see how we can coordinate so that our actions lead to the stabilisation of the region,' the head of state said.

Asked how he views the difference between the UN, repeatedly criticised by US President Donald Trump, and the Board of Peace initiated by him, at whose inaugural meeting he attended in the United States, President Dan said that each format has its own merits.

'There are many formats. Recently, I attended two that were just inaugurated - the Carpathian Initiative, the Arctic format. There are many formats for discussions, international cooperation that seek to resolve various geopolitical issues. That is all I can say. We will see what the success of the Board of Peace will be. We want to observe what we promised there, especially on the issue of sick children in the Gaza Strip. I do not want to comment further,' President Dan said.

'For us, taking part in this session of the General Assembly is an opportunity to present our views on the security of the region, in particular, and to be in contact with other leaders on the issues that concern us,' the Romanian president added.
