The George Emil Palade University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science and Technology (UMFST) in Targu Mures and Klaipeda University, Lithuania, laid the foundations for a strategic academic partnership on Tuesday, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding by the rectors of the two institutions, professor Leonard Azamfirei and professor Arturas Razbadauskas.

The agreement was signed during an official visit to Targu Mures by a Lithuanian delegation led by rector professor Arturas Razbadauskas, which also includes representatives of the management of Klaipeda University Hospital, taking place on October 5-6.

According to UMFST Targu Mures, the document provides the official framework for developing joint projects based on shared academic interests and the complementary expertise of the two universities.

'The programme of the Lithuanian delegation includes detailed visits to UMFST G.E. Palade's education, research and medical practice facilities. These meetings are aimed at facilitating a direct exchange of experience and identifying concrete areas for cooperation in higher education and scientific research. Through this new international cooperation initiative, UMFST G.E. Palade Targu Mures is strengthening its position on the global academic map. The partnership opens up new prospects for academic mobility, exchanges of best practices and development opportunities for both students and teaching staff at the two institutions,' UMFST Targu Mures said on Facebook.

The new agreement is part of the 'Smart Internationalisation' strategy pursued by the higher education institution in Targu Mures, which currently has active academic partnerships with more than 200 universities and research institutions worldwide.

According to the UMFST website, the institution recently launched an international Master's programme in International Business and Geopolitics (EMDI BAG), accredited at European level, and collaborates in the medical field with prestigious centres such as Korea University Guro Hospital, in digital healthcare, Gulf Medical University in the United Arab Emirates and West China University Hospital.

The same source says that UMFST hosts a dynamic multicultural community of more than 1,400 international students from over 80 countries.

In addition to expanding mobility opportunities through the Erasmus+ programme, for which UMFST has secured record-level funding nationally, the university is strengthening its global presence through unique structures and European alliances.
