Writers Jonathan Coe, Maja Lunde and Matt Haig will be in Brasov this weekend for NOD Festival, an event dedicated to copyright and dialogue between literature, theatre and film, bringing together authors, publishers, translators, literary agents, creative-industry professionals and the general public.

Now in its second edition, the festival will take place from September 24 to 27 under the theme Building Communities, based on the idea that 'culture is contagious and spreads from person to person through recommendations, conversations and shared experiences'.

'The 2026 edition explores the role of communities - from book clubs and independent cultural groups to projects that use literature and art to make a social impact - as spaces for meeting, learning and exchanging perspectives,' organisers Reading is Cool and MATCA Literara said in a statement on Wednesday.

Jonathan Coe returns to Romania after almost a decade, while Maja Lunde's appearance will be her first not only in Romania but in the region, the organisers said.

'As for Matt Haig, having him at NOD Festival shortly after the release of his latest successful title is a joy not only for us, but for all the readers who love his books so much,' NOD Festival founder Liviana Tane said.

Other guests include Miguel Gane, a Romanian-born Spanish-language poet; Rene Karabash, a 2025 International Booker Prize finalist with She Who Remains, which is being adapted for film; as well as Iulian Ciocan and Iris Wolff.

This year's programme for younger readers has been expanded, with meetings, readings and activities featuring Usch Luhn, Alec Blenche, Lavinia Braniste and Ioana Parvulescu. Events for young adult fiction readers will feature Marian Coman and Norwegian writer Aslak Nore.

The inaugural NOD Festival brought more than 80 guests from 12 countries and over 5,000 participants to Brasov in 2025.
