Arrivals and overnight stays in tourist accommodation establishments, including apartments and rooms for rent, increased by 6.2% and 6.1%, respectively in July 2026 compared with the same month last year, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INS) data released on Friday.

Arrivals recorded in tourist accommodation establishments (including apartments and rooms for rent) totalled 1.931 million persons in July 2026.

Of the total number of arrivals, Romanian tourists accounted for 83.7% of arrivals at tourist accommodation establishments in July 2026, while foreign tourists accounted for 16.3%.

Overnight stays recorded in tourist accommodation establishments (including apartments and rooms for rent) totalled 4.738 million in July 2026.

Of the total, overnight stays of Romanian tourists at tourist establishments of tourists' reception with functions of tourists' accommodation accounted for 86.5% in July 2026, while overnight stays by foreign tourists accounted for 13.5%.

The average duration of stay in July 2026 was 2.5 days for Romanian tourists and two days for foreign tourists.

The net use index of tourist accommodation capacity in July 2026 was 38% across all tourist accommodation establishments (including apartments and rooms for rent), down 0.4 percentage points from July 2025.

According to official statistics, arrivals recorded in tourist accommodation establishments (including apartments and rooms for rent) totalled 7.487 million people between January 1 and July 31, 2026, down 1.6% compared with the same period in 2025.

Of the total number of arrivals during the period mentioned, Romanian tourists accounted for 79.9% of arrivals at tourist accommodation establishments, while foreign tourists accounted for 20.1%.

Overnight stays recorded in tourist accommodation establishments (including apartments and rooms for rent) totalled 15.543 million between January 1 and July 31, 2026, down 3.1% compared with the same period last year.

Of the total, overnight stays by Romanian tourists at establishments of tourists' reception with functions of tourists' accommodation accounted for 79.9% between January 1 and July 31, 2026, while overnight stays by foreign tourists accounted for 20.1%.

The average duration of stay in the first seven months of the year was 2.1 days for both Romanian and foreign tourists.

The INS mentioned that the net use index of tourist accommodation capacity between January 1 and July 31, 2026 was 26% across all tourist accommodation establishments (including apartments and rooms for rent), down 2.3 percentage points compared with the same period in 2025.

By county, during the specified period, the number of tourist arrivals at the establishments of tourists' reception with functions of tourists' accommodation (including apartments and rooms for rent) was higher in Bucharest Municipality (1.095 million people), Constanta (1.028 million people) and Brasov (724,000 people). Overnight stays by tourists at the establishments of tourists' reception with functions of tourists' accommodation (including apartments and rooms for rent) were also higher during the same period in Constanta (3.101 million), Bucharest Municipality (2.248 million) and Brasov (1.378 million).

By country, the largest numbers of foreign tourists staying in tourist accommodation establishments, including apartments and rooms for rent, between January 1 and July 31, 2026, came from Germany (145,800 people), Italy (123,400 people) and the US (101,300 people).

The accommodation establishment sample was compiled based on the list of authorised/classified accommodation establishments provided by the Ministry of Economy, Digitalisation, Entrepreneurship and Tourism - Department for Tourism, as of June 10, 2026. The list included 16,347 establishments with more than 10 bed places, of which 9,523 were accommodation establishments and 6,824 were apartments and rooms for rent. In July 2026, out of the total number of accommodation establishments, 2,903 units were undergoing major repairs and 1,616 did not complete the questionnaire for other reasons.
