Prime Minister-designate Siegfried Muresan announced on Friday that he was starting work on the government programme together with the National Liberal Party (PNL), Save Romania Union (USR) and the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR), mentioning that he would present the priorities at the beginning of next week and, based on these, would hold an "extremely transparent" discussion with MPs.

"We have decided that, together with our experts from the National Liberal Party, Save Romania Union and UDMR, we will start work immediately on a government programme. The most important thing is what we will do for the country from the first day this government is sworn in. Starting today, I will work together with my colleagues from the three parties on drafting the government programme. Our objective is to present the priorities of the government programme at the beginning of next week and, based on these priorities, to have a discussion with the MPs in the Romanian Parliament," Muresan told a joint press conference with the leaders of the PNL, USR and UDMR.

He said the process would be "extremely transparent" at every stage.

Siegfried Muresan said that he had been informed by the President on Thursday that he was being designated for the position of prime minister.

"I was informed yesterday by the President of Romania of his intention to designate me as a candidate for the position of prime minister. I thank the President of Romania for this designation, which I accept. I would also like to thank my colleagues in the PNL and our trusted partners in USR and UDMR for the consistent, close and trusting partnership we have had throughout this period," Siegfried Muresan said.

The PNL MEP brought to mind that 84 days ago the three parties had decided to jointly propose his candidacy for the position of prime minister, highlighting that he was "ready" then and remains "ready" now to form a "serious," "reformist," "pro-European" government.

Muresan stressed that Romania needs a "serious" and "credible" government as soon as possible, a government that will continue the reform measures, projects and programmes started over the past year.

"I know that Romania has gained trust, credibility over the past year. I know that Romania is more stable and stronger today than it was in the past and we must continue on this path," Muresan said. AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Alina Novaceanu; EN - writing by: Adina Panaitescu)
