President Nicusor Dan will participate in Istanbul on Saturday, alongside President of the Republic of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the flag-raising ceremony for the HISAR-class vessel Rear Admiral August Roman.

According to a press release from the Presidential Administration, the ceremony at the Istanbul Naval Shipyard marks the vessel's entry into operational service with the Romanian Naval Forces, after which the necessary stages for its deployment to Romania will be completed.

'The new corvette built in Türkiye will enhance Romania's surveillance and response capabilities, strengthening collective security in the Black Sea region. The corvette is designed for operations across all naval warfare domains - surface, anti-air and anti-submarine warfare - and can carry out missions including the interdiction of hostile actions, the protection of critical infrastructure and own forces, the defence of maritime communications and other tasks,' the press release reads.

On the occasion of the ceremony in Istanbul, President Nicusor Dan will also have a meeting with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to discuss the priorities of the bilateral Strategic Partnership, regional security and preparations for the NATO Summit of Ankara on 7-8 July.
