The ‘I. L. Caragiale' National Theatre in Bucharest is introducing English surtitles for a selection of productions from its repertoire to be staged in October and November.

According to a press release sent to AGERPRES on Tuesday, the initiative aims to make the Bucharest National Theatre's productions more accessible to international audiences.

‘The National Theatre in Bucharest aims to bring its productions closer to international audiences, giving theatregoers who speak other languages the opportunity to discover the diversity of the TNB repertoire. English surtitles are a step in this direction, making the stories, themes and artistic worlds of the productions more accessible to as wide an audience as possible,' the press release reads.

The following performances will feature English surtitles: The Welkin by Lucy Kirkwood, directed by Gelu Colceag, at the Atelier Hall on 16 October; No Man's Land by Danis Tanovic, directed by Alexander Morfov, at the Studio Hall on 1 November; Exile, written and directed by Alexandra Badea, at the Ion Caramitru Hall on 4 November; and Hedda Gabler by Henrik Ibsen, directed by Thomas Ostermeier, on 6 November.

Through this initiative, the TNB aims to strengthen its connection with international audiences living in Bucharest and offer foreign visitors the opportunity to discover Romanian theatre through representative productions from its repertoire.

The English surtitling programme will continue periodically, with further productions to be included in the initiative. Information about upcoming performances and dates will be announced through the Bucharest National Theatre's official communication channels.
