Romania supports access to the Gaza Strip for humanitarian aid, journalists and independent analysts, interim Foreign Affairs Minister Oana Toiu said at a press conference on Monday.

'What we support together is, first and foremost, the disarmament of Hamas in order to create a secure environment, particularly following the tragic events of October 7, as well as access to the Gaza Strip for humanitarian aid, journalists and independent analysts. Especially now, with winter approaching, it is extremely important to ensure access for humanitarian aid and professionals working in the field. We are deeply concerned about the situation of children and families in the Gaza Strip,' Toiu said.



She recalled that Romania has contributed and continues to contribute to the treatment of children with cancer and has also been involved in evacuation flights, particularly in partnership with other European Union countries willing to provide them with treatment, funded to a large extent through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.

Romania supports the two-state solution, Oana Toiu reiterated.

'Romania is one of the few countries with a long history of uninterrupted diplomatic relations with both Palestine and the State of Israel. In recent years, and particularly over the past year, the number of countries willing to recognise and promote the two-state solution has increased. In this regard, Romania delivered a statement [at the UN] within the framework proposed for the two-state solution,' the interim foreign minister said.
