President Nicușor Dan met on Sunday in New York with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, to whom he conveyed Romania's 'deep gratitude' for his tireless work to find solutions to conflicts around the world and for his steadfast commitment to peace, dialogue and respect for international law. The Romanian head of state also met with US Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz.
'It was a pleasure to meet Secretary-General @antonioguterres at the start of my visit to the @UN,' Nicușor Dan wrote in a post on X.
Romania, he said, 'will remain a strong and reliable supporter of effective multilateralism, of the UN80 reform initiative and of the Pact for the Future, working to build a stronger UN, better equipped to respond to today's challenges.'
Another topic discussed was the impact of Russia's war against Ukraine. Nicușor Dan said he also thanked the UN Secretary-General for his continued efforts to mitigate the humanitarian, economic and global food security impact of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine.
US Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz also posted a photo with Nicușor Dan on X, saying that the United States and Romania are 'Strong partners in reforming the UN - cutting waste, restoring focus on peace and security, and putting sovereignty first.'
