Interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan held a meeting on Thursday at the Victoria Palace with the new Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Bucharest, Hur Seung-chul, and Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) representative Park Sangchul, general manager of the Unit 1 Refurbishment Project.

Representatives of the SN Nuclearelectrica SA (SNN) also attended the meeting.

'I wish you success in your term as ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Romania and assure you of the Government's respect. The Republic of Korea is an important partner for Romania in Asia and I am confident that together we will develop and strengthen our Strategic Partnership,' interim Prime Minister Bolojan said, according to a Government release.

An important part of the discussions was economic cooperation, as the volume of trade and export rate are increasing.

The Prime Minister welcomed the momentum of bilateral dialogue and the latest progress in sectoral cooperation, particularly in the areas of civil nuclear energy and the defence industry.

'The meeting also reviewed the progress of the project to modernise and refurbish Unit 1 of the Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant by Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power and set out the necessary steps to complete the investments, according to the agreed timetable,' the release mentioned.

Prime Minister Bolojan mentioned he is following with 'the utmost' attention the progress of investment projects at the Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant, taking into account that reactors 1 and 2 produce 20 percent of the electricity Romania needs.

'We want bilateral cooperation projects, especially ones of this scale, to serve as examples of good practice in cooperation between our countries,' Ilie Bolojan conveyed.

Also attending the meeting at the Victoria Palace were head of the Prime Minister's Chancellery Mihai Jurca and State Adviser within the Prime Minister's Chancellery Luminita Odobescu. AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Daniel Florea; EN - writing by: Rodica State)
