The literary event 'Peruvian Poetry and the Periphery of the West', part of the programme of the 16th edition of the Bucharest International Poetry Festival (FIPB), and featuring Peruvian poet Martin Rodríguez-Gaona, will take place on Tuesday, September 15, in the Auditorium Hall of the Cervantes Institute.

The event is organised by the Embassy of Peru in Romania, in partnership with the National Museum of Romanian Literature (MNLR) and the Cervantes Institute.

According to a press release posted on the Cervantes Institute's Facebook page, the event will include an overview of Peruvian poetry and a poetry reading, both presented by Martín Rodríguez-Gaona (with the Romanian translation by Vlad Radulian), as well as a question-and-answer session.

The event will be attended by Cervantes Institute Director Abel Murcia Soriano, Ambassador of the Republic of Peru Gloria Olivares Portocarrero, and Luana Stroe, representing the National Museum of Romanian Literature and MLR Publishing House.

The event will be held in Spanish, with simultaneous interpretation into Romanian.

Martín Rodriguez-Gaona (Lima, 1969) is a Peruvian-Spanish poet, essayist and translator.

After completing a master's programme at Bowling Green State University (Ohio) in 1998, he settled in Spain, where he received a creative writing grant at Madrid's Residencia de Estudiantes and worked as a cultural manager.

He is the author of the poetry collections 'Codex de los poderes y los encantos' (2011), Madrid, linea circular (2013, Caceres World Heritage Award), 'Motivos fuera del tiempo: las ruinas' (2020), 'Wunderkammer: Las musas y otras mutaciones' (2024) and 'Millennial cantabile' (Espasa es Poesía, 2026).

His essays 'La lira de las masas: Internet y la crisis de la ciudad letrad'a (2019, X Mqlaga Award) and 'Contra los influencers: Corporativizacion tecnologica y modernizacion fallida (o sobre el futuro de la ciudad letrada)' (2023, Celia Amoros Award, Ciutat de Valencia) explore the relationship between poetry, digital culture and new forms of creative expression.

He has also translated works by authors including John Ashbery, John Giorno and Alice Notley.

The 16th edition of the Bucharest International Poetry Festival (FIPB), which brings together poets and artists from around the world in an extensive programme dedicated to poetry, intercultural dialogue and the power of words, will take place in the capital from September 14 to 20.

For seven days, Bucharest will become a meeting place for cultures and generations, with more than 50 events scheduled, including public readings, debates, conferences, exhibitions, concerts, performances, recitals and commemorative events.

This year's edition features guests from Armenia, Austria, the Czech Republic, Cyprus, China, Croatia, France, Greece, Italy, Lithuania, the Republic of Moldova, Peru, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Tunisia and Turkey, alongside numerous Romanian poets and artists.
