Romania is not sending combat troops to Ukraine, and the priority is the protection of our citizens, the Presidential Administration stated on Wednesday in a Facebook post.

According to the cited source, the message is a reaction to a false narrative recently circulating online, claiming that Romania intends to send troops to Ukraine to participate in the war.

'This is alarmist manipulation that deliberately distorts an administrative decision in order to fuel the unfounded theory that Romania is being drawn into the conflict. Russia's military aggression against Ukraine affects all states in the Black Sea region, including Romania, which shares a direct border with Ukraine. We therefore find ourselves in a geopolitical zone of persistent insecurity due to Russian military actions,' the Presidential Administration stated.

According to Cotroceni, 'Romania's top priority is the protection and defense of our citizens, which is why our country participates in all international formats that help achieve this major security objective.'

'One such format is the 'Coalition of the Willing for Ukraine,' established with the aim of securing a system of political and legal guarantees for Ukraine following a ceasefire agreement—which would signify guarantees of peace and stability for our entire region. To implement high-level political decisions in the military sphere, the Operational Command for the Multinational Force in Support of Ukraine was activated in 2025,' explain representatives of the Presidential Administration.

The President of Romania has requested Parliament's approval for Romania to contribute up to 20 military personnel to the operational command for the Multinational Force in support of Ukraine and to its subordinate command and control structures; the Presidential Administration further notes that Romania is not sending combat troops to Ukraine, nor is it deploying military personnel to the front line.

Moreover, the command structure operates on a rotational basis and conducts its activities in France and Great Britain, thousands of kilometers away from the front line.
