The Directorate for Investigating Organised Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) announced on Tuesday that it had ordered the detention of a 40-year-old Russian national accused of attempting to commit acts of sabotage.
'Evidence gathered in the case shows that, between February and July 2026, with a view to committing acts of hybrid diversion/sabotage, under the direct coordination of a person with whom he maintained contact through online encrypted messaging services, he identified, monitored and collected military-related information. He also took and sent photographs concerning Romanian/Allied armed forces equipment and the movement of personnel and military equipment at several Romanian and multinational military facilities (bases) located in Cluj, Constanta, Calarasi and Ilfov counties and Bucharest, acts which, by their nature, endangered national security,' DIICOT informs in a press release.
The Bucharest Court of Appeal is to be notified with a request for the defendant to be placed in pre-trial detention for 30 days.
The judicial activities were carried out together with judicial police officers from DIICOT - Central Structure, the Directorate for Combating Organised Crime and its subordinate structures.
