Energy efficiency is an issue that perhaps does not receive enough emphasis and is not discussed as much in Romania and, therefore, awareness of this topic needs to be increased, President of the Romanian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AHK Romania) Sebastian Metz told a specialist conference on Tuesday.
'We need to raise awareness of energy efficiency because, from my point of view, energy efficiency is still an issue that perhaps does not receive enough emphasis and is not discussed as much here in Romania. We are all now seeing some increase in energy bills. Certainly, awareness, as well as campaigns to disseminate knowledge about energy efficiency measures, are something that we could perhaps step up in Romania. We can all discuss how we should increase energy efficiency in the existing building stock, but without the availability, in terms of both quantity and quality, of experts, the objective will not be achieved. Therefore, we really need to focus on ensuring the availability of experts, companies and technical specialists in Romania so that these activities can be carried out, because they are by no means simple,' Metz said.
According to the AHK Romania official, a number of solutions need to be found in the area of energy efficiency, both by the business sector and by policymakers, which could take the form of support schemes.
'Most activities related to energy efficiency are highly technical and, in order to implement these technical solutions, we need to create a foundation for all of this. This is something that we also perhaps need to pay a little more attention to here, both from the business sector and from the political sector, perhaps through support schemes that we can facilitate in order to build the expertise we need and, in fact, to create the foundation for energy efficiency,' Sebastian Metz stressed.
