The exhibition 'Baia Mare Art 130 (1896-2026) - Contemporary Artists', dedicated to the 130th anniversary of the Baia Mare artists' colony, will open on Tuesday evening at the Liszt Institute - Hungarian Cultural Centre Bucharest.

Alongside Liszt Institute director Kosa Andras Laszlo, the event, starting at 19:00, will be attended by Hungarian Ambassador to Bucharest Kissne Hlatki Katalin, exhibition curator Strebeli Robert, director of the Baia Mare County Museum of Art - Artistic Centre Baia Mare, and art historian Cosmin Nasui, the organisers said.

Organised in partnership with the Baia Mare County Museum of Art - Artistic Centre Baia Mare, the exhibition follows a similar initiative held this spring, which offered a historical perspective on the formation and development of the city's artists' colony and school of painting. It brings together 28 works presenting a diversity of visions and techniques - painting, sculpture, graphic art and mixed media - ranging from landscape and figurative art to forms of abstraction and contemporary sensibility.

'Yet within this diversity, a common thread can be discerned: the profound relationship with place, light, memory and human experience. Some of the works look directly at Baia Mare, while others move away from immediate representation to transform this heritage into a personal language. Seen in this way, the exhibition becomes more than a selection of works of art. It is a bridge between generations. From the Baia Mare landscape and the memory of the city to the abstract, introspective or conceptual forms of contemporary art, what endures is the freedom to observe, experiment and transform reality into image. And this is perhaps one of the most important legacies of the Baia Mare School. The presence of recent works, including creations dating from 2025 and 2026, makes this continuity not only symbolic, but also tangible,' the cited source said.
