A fragment of an explosive-laden aerial drone, floating approximately 5 nautical miles east of the entrance to the Sulina Channel, was neutralized by an EOD team from the Romanian Naval Forces.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Defence sent to AGERPRES on Friday, an EOD team from the Romanian Naval Forces traveled aboard a Coast Guard vessel to a location approximately five nautical miles east of the entrance to the Sulina Channel to inspect a suspicious floating object.
'Following inspections, the EOD team confirmed the presence of an aerial drone fragment containing an explosive charge. The object was safely neutralized on-site at 18:17,' the cited source reports.
A similar operation took place on Thursday afternoon, when another EOD team from the Romanian Naval Forces neutralized an aerial drone fragment carrying an explosive charge that was floating near the Central Platform; the ministry noted that both incidents were reported by commercial vessels via the Regional Maritime Coordination Centre.
