The Russian ambassador in Bucharest will be summoned at the Romanian Foreign Ministry following Russia's drone attack of Leipzig airport, Romania's Foreign Minister Oana Toiu said on Wednesday in a social media post.

' We have decided to summon the Russian Ambassador to Bucharest to the Romanian MFA,' said Toiu.

She added that Romania stands in full solidarity with Germany and other European states that have witnessed reckless and persistent Russian hybrid activities, interference or provocations, mentioning that Romania is among those countries.

' Following the German authorities' determination that Russia holds responsibility for the drone attack at Leipzig/Halle Airport, we are acting collectively and strongly as EU Member States and NATO Allies,' wrote Toiu.

' Our message is clear: we will not tolerate Russian hybrid action and we will respond united. There will be no impunity. Deterrence requires both preparedness and a willingness to impose a real cost for the aggressor,' Toiu also said.

The President of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen, and the Secretary General of NATO, Mark Rutte, gave assurances on Wednesday that the pressure on Russia will continue and even increase, after the hybrid drone attack on an airport in the German city of Leipzig, attributed to Moscow, the EFE news agency reports.

' Europe and NATO will not just maintain our pressure on Russia. We will increase it. And we will not stop. Not until Russia stops bombing and killing innocent children, men and women in Ukraine,' von der Leyen said after a meeting with Rutte at the headquarters of the European executive in Brussels.

On August 4 at night, a drone loaded with explosives was discovered in the secure area of Leipzig/Halle airport, near several Ukrainian cargo planes, and after a few minutes there was a collision between a cargo plane of the logistics company and DHL courier company in flight and another drone. The DHL aircraft later managed to land at Hannover airport without incident and with only minor damage.

According to German media, which cited sources close to the authorities, a third drone was found ten days later west of the airport. A substance corresponding to about 50 grams of hexogen, an extremely powerful military explosive, was found.

Located in the eastern part of Germany, Leipzig/Halle Airport is a centre for military transports, especially of the German army and NATO allies, and is also an operational base for the German company DHL and the Ukrainian airline Antonov Airlines.
