President Nicusor Dan on Wednesday congratulated Ulle Madise on being elected president of Estonia, saying that Romania and the Baltic country are close partners and share a common responsibility for the security of their region.

'Congratulations, Ulle Madise, on your election as President of Estonia! Romania and Estonia are close European partners and NATO allies, bound by a shared responsibility for the security of our region and NATO's Eastern Flank, from the Baltic to the Black Sea. I look forward to working closely together to deepen our partnership, for the security and prosperity of our peoples,' Dan wrote in a social media post.

Ulle Madise, a lawyer and chancellor of justice, was elected president of Estonia on Wednesday by the Riigikogu, the Parliament in Tallinn, becoming the second woman to hold this position, according to the EFE news agency. Following the election by secret ballot, Ulle Madise received 71 votes in a chamber composed of 101 members.
