Leading names from the Romanian and international cultural scene will be in Iasi from 21 to 25 October to participate in this year's edition of the Iasi International Festival of Literature and Translation - FILIT, according to the event's organiser, the Iasi Museum of Romanian Literature.

According to the source, guests will include Paul Lynch, winner of the 2023 Booker Prize for his novel 'Prophet Song,' which has received numerous other international awards and has been translated into more than 35 languages, and David Foenkinos, one of France's most widely read contemporary writers, whose impressive body of novels are all bestsellers, with some having received major literary awards and been translated into around 40 languages.

Also appearing on the festival stage will be Parinoush Saniee, a sociologist and psychologist and author of the novel 'The Book of Fate,' which was banned twice in Iran before becoming an international bestseller translated into more than 26 languages and receiving numerous awards, and Aleksandar Hemon, a Bosnian-American writer who has won numerous major awards and is the author of the novels 'The Lazarus Project' and 'Nowhere Man.' He was also a co-screenwriter of 'The Matrix Resurrections,' the fourth film in the iconic science-fiction franchise.

The list continues with other major names in world literature, whose works have been translated into numerous languages and recognised with prestigious awards and distinctions: Elena Alexieva (Bulgaria), Eric Chacour (Canada), Yavuz Ekinci (Türkiye), Milena Michiko Flasar (Austria), Ramon Gener (Spain), Dincer Gucyeter (Germany), Hallgrimur Helgason (Iceland), Roskva Koritzinsky (Norway), Alexandre Lenot (France), Andriy Lyubka (Ukraine), Laura Pariani (Italy), Anna Soyom (Hungary), Marek Torcik (Czech Republic), Hattie Williams (United Kingdom) and Gabriella Zalapi (Switzerland).

Romanian authors participating in this year's edition include Gabriela Adamesteanu, Simona Antonescu, Andreea Berechet, Iulian Bocai, Lavinia Braniste, Geanina Carbunariu, Gilbert Costache, Gelu Duminica, Filip Florian, Delia Grigore, Florin Irimia, Ilinca Manescu, Mircea Mihaies, Alex Moldovan, Ana-Maria Negrila, Ioana Parvulescu, Florin Pitea, Radu Paraschivescu, Andreea Sterea, Adriana Stefan, Daniel Timariu, Ioana Unk, Cristian Vicol and Vlad Zografi.

FILIT organisers also announced that poets Andrei Dosa, Silvia Goteanschii, Emanuel Guralivu, Emanuela Ignatoiu-Sora, Vasile Leac, Ciprian Macesaru, Andrei Novac, Sorina Rindasu, Codruta Simina and Moni Stanila will meet the public during events held from 21 to 25 October.

FILIT 2026 will also bring together translators who make it possible for Romanian authors to reach bookshops and publishing markets in other countries and who play a key role in promoting Romanian literature abroad: Iulia Badea-Gueritee (France), Alexandru Bulucz (Germany), Jan Cornelius (Germany), Anna Kazmierczak (Poland), Eva Kenderessy (Slovakia), Joanna Kornas-Warwas (Poland), Borja Mozo Martin (Spain), Marian Ochoa de Eribe (Spain), Charlotte van Rooden (the Netherlands), Andreea Scridon (Romania/USA) and Imre Szocs (Romania).

This year's edition will feature a new instalment of the tour of partner festivals within CELA - Connecting Emerging Literary Artists, an initiative funded through the European Union's Creative Europe programme, aimed at raising the profile of writers and translators working in languages that are less widely represented on international book markets.

Belgian writer Anneleen Van Offel and Polish writer Malgorzata Zarow, together with Bulgarian writer Momchil Milanov and Italian writer Davide Di Lorenzo, will have on-stage conversations with their translators: Andreea Balteanu (Dutch), Oana-Andreea Stoe (Polish), Maria Andrei (Bulgarian) and George Doru Ivan (Italian).

The Romanian translation team will also be represented at the festival by Jessica Bilcec (Ukrainian), Ilinca Ganga (Spanish), George Doru Ivan (Italian), Aleksandra Petrov (Serbian), Andrei Sandulescu (Czech) and Madalina Balea (Dutch).

'This is the first announcement of guests for FILIT 2026. The full list, which will also include other writers, cultural managers, publishers, journalists and artists, will be made public in the coming period,' representatives of the Iasi Museum of Romanian Literature said.

FILIT is an annual event organised by the National Museum of Romanian Literature in Iasi and funded by Iasi County Council. This year's edition is supported by Iasi City Hall and takes place under the high patronage of the Representation of the European Commission in Romania and under the patronage of Romania's National Commission for UNESCO.
