The Slovak government has approved the deployment of low-altitude radars and personnel to operate them in Romania, interim Defence Minister Radu Miruta announced on Tuesday.
Miruta is attending the informal meeting of EU defence ministers in Wicklow, Ireland.
'Sometimes, hard work at meetings produces concrete results. I thank my counterpart Robert Kalinak, as well as the Slovak government, for approving the deployment to Romania of low-altitude radars and personnel to operate them. This is a response to the request I made at both NATO and European Union level to strengthen surveillance capabilities along our eastern border,' Miruta wrote on Facebook.
The Romanian minister thanked his Slovak counterpart during the informal meeting of EU defence ministers in Ireland.
'I stressed once again how important it is to demonstrate in practice how cooperation between states works. Romania has shown that it is a serious partner that does not ask for anything before doing its own homework,' Miruta said.
