A team from Babes-Bolyai University (UBB) in Cluj-Napoca, comprising a student and a member of the teaching staff of the Faculty of Political, Administrative and Communication Sciences (FSPAC), will represent Romania at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026.

'Bogdan Nimerenco, a student in the Department of Journalism and Digital Media within FSPAC, and lecturer George Prundaru, PhD, a member of the teaching staff of the same department, are part of Romania's team in the Digital Interactive Media Design section: Bogdan Nimerenco as a competitor and George Prundaru as a WorldSkills Romania expert. Bogdan Nimerenco will compete as Romania's representative at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026, the 48th edition of the WorldSkills global competition, which will take place from 22 to 27 September 2026 in Shanghai, China, bringing together approximately 1,400 competitors from more than 70 countries and regions competing in 64 disciplines. Romania will participate with 13 young competitors entered in 11 competition sections,' UBB said in a press release on Tuesday.

According to the press release, Bogdan Nimerenco will compete in the final stage of the Digital Interactive Media Design section, which is being included in the WorldSkills Competition programme for the first time. It is one of seven new skills introduced for the 2026 edition, against the backdrop of technological change and the rapid development of digital industries.

During the preparation period for Shanghai, Bogdan Nimerenco is developing his skills in visual design, UX/UI and digital communication, in a field that brings together creativity, technology and the development of interactive experiences.

'Bogdan Nimerenco's preparation for the global competition is being conducted under the guidance of lecturer George Prundaru, PhD, a WorldSkills Romania expert and member of the teaching staff of FSPAC's Department of Journalism and Digital Media. His academic and professional work encompasses areas including editorial design, visual communication, UX/UI design, branding, digital applications and video games. Within WorldSkills, the expert's role is not limited to preparing the competitor. Experts contribute to the preparation and conduct of the competition tasks and take part in the assessment process, in accordance with the international standards and criteria specific to each field,' the release also reads.

Held every two years, the WorldSkills Competition is one of the most important international competitions dedicated to vocational skills, bringing together young competitors and experts from around the world. The competition tasks are designed to test participants' skills in situations similar to those encountered in professional settings and to reflect current standards and technologies in the areas represented.
