Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel is coming to Bucharest, where she will launch her book 'Freedom: Memoirs 1954-2021' on Tuesday.
According to a Litera Publishing House press release, the event will take place at the Romanian Athenaeum at 19:00 in the form of a public dialogue between Angela Merkel and journalist and diplomat Emil Hurezeanu, former Foreign Minister.
Tickets are available through Eventbook, with each ticket including a copy of 'Freedom: Memoirs 1954-2021.'
The public can also opt for a ticket category that includes a copy of the book autographed by Angela Merkel, available in limited numbers.
According to Litera, the book offers a unique perspective on the 'meanders of power' and is 'a firm plea for freedom.'
'In her memoirs, written together with her long-time political adviser Beate Baumann, Ms Merkel recalls a life equally divided between two states and two worlds: 35 years in the German Democratic Republic (GDR) and 35 years in reunified Germany. With the utmost sincerity, Angela Merkel recounts her childhood, youth and studies in the GDR and speaks about the drama of 1989, marked by the fall of the Berlin Wall, as well as the beginnings of her political career. She then allows us to join her in the meetings and discussions she held with the world's most influential leaders. Starting from the turning points in national as well as European and international history, she reveals with clarity and precision how the decisions that shaped the present in which we live were made,' the publisher said.
The book 'Freedom: Memoirs 1954-2021' was launched internationally in 2024 in more than 30 countries and Bucharest is among the few destinations around the world that Angela Merkel has chosen to visit in person, alongside prominent capitals such as Berlin, Washington, Budapest and Athens.
