President Nicusor Dan, who is on an official visit to the Republic of Moldova on the occasion of the country's Independence Day, stopped in Cahul on Thursday, a city he regards as an 'important landmark of Romanian identity, culture and spirit'.

'On my way to Chisinau, I stopped to visit the city of Cahul, an important landmark of Romanian identity, culture and spirit in the Republic of Moldova. I was pleased to discover a city with a rich history, hardworking people and a community that has managed to preserve and pass on the values we share. In Cahul, we find ties between Romania and the Republic of Moldova in education, culture, the economy, local community projects and, above all, in relations between people,' the head of state said in a post on X.

He highlighted Romania's contribution to two important projects in Cahul, namely the construction of a new building for the Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu Theatre and the modernisation of a dormitory of Cahul University.

'I appreciated the efforts of the local authorities, institutions, teachers, cultural figures, entrepreneurs, young people and all those who contribute every day to the development of Cahul and to strengthening the relationship between the Republic of Moldova and Romania,' the Romanian president also said.
