'Fjord,' directed by Cristian Mungiu and winner of the Palme d'Or at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, will close the Oslo/PIX Film Festival, a film event taking place in the Norwegian capital until 30 August.
According to a press release sent by the Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR) on Wednesday, the film will have three screenings attended by the director and members of the production team. The gala premiere, followed by a party, will take place on Friday, 28 August, at Klingenberg 1. Two further screenings are scheduled for 29 August at Vega Scene 1, as part of the 'Meet the Director' event, and on 30 August in the Tancred Hall, with an introduction by Hani Hussein.
The series of meetings and events dedicated to the film will be attended by director Cristian Mungiu and guests involved in the production.
'Fjord' tells the story of a Romanian-Norwegian family that moves from Romania to a small town in Norway. When the school suspects that the parents are using physical punishment against their children, intervention by the authorities triggers a conflict that brings different values and attitudes towards family, education, individual freedom and the responsibility of the state into confrontation. The leading roles are played by Sebastian Stan and Renate Reinsve, alongside Ellen Dorrit Petersen and Lisa Loven Kongsli.
The Oslo/PIX Film Festival brings together international film productions, meetings with filmmakers, industry events and special screenings.
The participation of the 'Fjord' delegation at the festival is supported by the Romanian Cultural Institute and the Embassy of Romania in the Kingdom of Norway.
The film has received extensive coverage in the international press, standing out for the way it explores cultural differences and the clash between conservative and progressive values. Le Monde French daily describes 'Fjord' as 'a clash of opposing worlds,' highlighting the complexity of the conflict and Cristian Mungiu's refusal to provide simple answers in a situation in which each side stands by its own values and beliefs.
