The new repertory strategy of the 'I.L. Caragiale' National Theatre (TNB) in the capital will be structured around seven major programmes, with the aim of strengthening its status as Romania's leading stage.
According to a TNB release sent to AGERPRES on Wednesday, the main aim of the new strategy is to establish a permanent and open dialogue with the public.
'This complex system ensures a balanced relationship between the aesthetic and thematic diversity of the performances while also making the theatre's internal organisation more efficient,' the release reads.
The seven programmes that will define TNB's activity from the new season, which opens in early September, are:
- Teatrokosmos (the pillar of major productions) - dedicated to major works of classical and contemporary drama, both Romanian and international. The programme will bring large-scale productions, stage adaptations and original scripts before the wider public;
- Sensorium (theatre, emotion and technology) - an innovative programme that transforms the auditorium into a space for aesthetic exploration, bringing art and technology together. Multimedia technology, virtual reality, dance theatre and musicals combine to stimulate all the spectator's senses. It is aimed primarily at young audiences, as well as the wider public looking for new experiences;
- Agora (theatre and community) - the programme will focus on drama with a strong social impact, presenting performances on pressing social issues based on documentary research and urban memory;
- Genesis (incubator for new generations) - a launch platform for young artists and a hub for cultural innovation;
- Proscenium (laboratory of excellence) - a programme dedicated exclusively to the professional development of the TNB team and the training of future specialists in the various theatre crafts;
- Axis (national and international outreach) - a programme aimed at strengthening TNB's national and international connectivity through international theatre networks. It will include nationally and internationally co-produced or invited productions in TNB's mobility platform and will be delivered through a series of performances for each production included in the programme;
- Sirinx (theatre in unconventional spaces) - a dynamic programme offering theatre, music, dance, film and experimental performance in unusual spaces and at different times.
The repertory framework proposed by the TNB manager establishes the theatre's profile as an essential civic landmark, a place of meeting, reflection and cultural enjoyment for the entire community, the statement said.
From 5 September, Bucharest's National Theatre will reopen its doors with a rich programme of more than 80 performances scheduled across all five performance spaces - the 'Ion Caramitru' Hall, Studio, Pictura, Atelier and the Small Hall.
Tickets can be purchased both online and in person from the TNB Box Office. AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Petronius Craiu; EN - writing by: Adina Panaitescu)
