The number of Ro-Alert messages sent by the Inspectorate General for Emergency Situations (IGSU) to the population of Tulcea County during the first seven months of this year, amid the war launched by Russia in Ukraine, is close to the number of extreme alert messages sent across Romania for the same reason between 2023 and 2025.
Data provided to AGERPRES by IGSU show that 12 Ro-Alert messages were sent in 2023, 21 the following year and 30 in 2025, while from the beginning of this year until the end of last month, the population of Tulcea County received 61 extreme alerts due to Russia's drone attacks.
The first Ro-Alert message sent in Romania amid the war launched by Russia was addressed to the population of Tulcea County on 13 September 2023 at 00:50 and was followed shortly afterwards by another message sent to the population of Galati County at 01:04.
Data provided by IGSU show that the first Ro-Alert message issued in response to Russian drone attacks was sent in Constanta County on 17 October 2024 at 18:55 and in Vrancea County on 25 November 2025 at 08:36.
In September 2023, the Ministry of National Defence confirmed that fragments of equipment 'that could be considered a drone' had been found in the village of Plauru, Ceatalchioi commune, in the Danube Delta, Tulcea County. The locality is situated a few hundred metres from the port of Izmail in Ukraine's Odesa region, from which it is separated by the Danube.
The war in Ukraine escalated in 2022, when 110 fires broke out in the Delta, covering a total area of 22,085.2 hectares. According to the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve Administration, this was the largest area of vegetation affected by fires during the 2015-2025 period.
