Meteorologists issued new Code Orange heatwave warnings on Tuesday, affecting areas across more than half of the country until Thursday morning, where temperatures are expected to reach 39 degrees.

According to the National Meteorological Administration (ANM), a first Code Orange warning for exceptionally hot weather will be in force from 4 August, 10:00, to 5 August, 10:00, in Maramures, southern Banat, most of Transylvania, north-eastern Moldavia and south-western Oltenia.

In these areas, maximum temperatures will range between 35 and 39 degrees, with the highest values recorded in the counties of Caras-Severin, Mehedinti and Dolj. Thermal discomfort will be high, and the temperature-humidity index (THI) will exceed the critical threshold of 80 units. In some areas, the night will be tropical, with minimum temperatures of 20-24 degrees, with the highest values expected in the Banat Hills.

The second Code Orange heatwave warning will be in force from 5 August, 10:00, to 6 August, 10:00, in areas of Moldavia, Oltenia, most of Transylvania, south-western and central Muntenia, where maximum temperatures will range between 35 and 38 degrees. Moreover, thermal discomfort will be high and, in some areas, the night will be tropical, with minimum temperatures between 20 and 24 degrees, with the highest values expected in the Banat Hills.
