Romania won two gold medals in the mixed events on Sunday at the 2026 European Rowing Championships in Varese, Italy.
In the mixed double sculls, Marian Florian Enache and Iulia-Liliana Balauca won in 6 min 27.87 sec, ahead of Germany (6:28.86) and Italy (6:30.41).
In the mixed eight final, Romania (Maria Magdalena Rusu, Maria Lehaci, Ancuta Bodnar, Amalia Chelaru, Andrei Vatamaniuc, Leontin Nutescu, Stefan Constantin Berariu, Florin Sorin Lehaci, Victoria Stefania Petreanu) won convincingly in 5 min 41.90 sec, followed by Germany (5:46.93) and Denmark (5:51.52).
In the men's single sculls, Mihai Chiruta finished fourth in 6 min 41.34 sec, narrowly missing out on a podium place. Germany won in 6:36.39, ahead of Belarus (6:39.94) and Greece (6:40.97).
Romania finished top of the medal table with six gold medals, one silver and one bronze, followed by Germany (5-6-1), Great Britain (5-1-0), Italy (2-2-5) and others. AGERPRES (RO - editing by: Mihai Tenea; EN - writing by: Rodica State)
