The Transylvania International Film Festival (TIFF) is kicking off today in Sibiu, with seven screenings scheduled at CineGold and in the Big Square in the historic centre of the city, with the first day ending with a free screening of the film 'The Last Viking.'

Thursday's events start at 16:00hrs, in Hall 4 of CineGold, with 'Lionel', directed by Carlos Saiz, the winner of the Transylvania Trophy at TIFF 2026. From 16:30hrs in Hall 2, the film 'My Father's Shadow', directed by Akinola Davies Jr., will be screened, and from 17:45hrs in Hall 4, the public will be able to see a preview of 'Queen at Sea' directed by Lance Hammer.

At 18:00hrs in Hall 2, there is a special screening of the film 'The President's Cake'. From 20:00hrs, two films are scheduled simultaneously: the Romanian production 'One-way', directed by Cristian Bota, in Hall 2, and the preview 'Malaga Street', by Maryam Touzani, in Hall 4.

The first day of TIFF Sibiu will end in the Big Square, where, at 21:30hrs, the black comedy 'The Last Viking', directed by Anders Thomas Jensen, will be screened. The film talks about family, identity and trying to start over. Admission is free.

This year's edition runs until Sunday and marks 20 years since the first edition of TIFF organized in Sibiu. For four days, the public will be able to see over 30 Romanian and international productions, previews, special screenings and films for children, at CineGold, Hochmeister Hall and in the Big Square.

The festival ends on Sunday evening in Big Square, with 'Gorky Resort', directed by Lukasz Palkowski, starring Irish actor Aidan Gillen, known for his role as 'Littlefinger' in the series 'Game of Thrones'. AGERPRES (RO - editing by: Isabela Paulescu; EN - writing by: Corneliu-Aurelian Colceriu)
