Romania's national team comfortably defeated Uruguay 30-16 (12-8) on Wednesday evening in Pitesti in their opening Group F match at the IHF Women's Youth (U18) Handball World Championship, hosted by Craiova, Mioveni, Pitesti and Ramnicu Valcea.
The Romanian nationals had an excellent first half before cruising to a convincing 14-goal victory.
The goals for the team coached by Victorina Bora were scored by Diana Maria Salajan (7), Maria Petrache (3), Monica Gabriela Scarlat (3), Diana Stefania Lefter (3), Maria Nela Rusu (2), Daria Georgiana Comendant (2), Roberta Giorgiana Manea (2), Maria Sprincenatu (2), Delia Maria Rosu (2), Agata Stoican (2), Giulya Maria Puiu (1) and Diana Elena Baiasu (1).
Fiorella Olmos Jarque and Antonella Marti Gonzalez were Uruguay's standout players, scoring four goals each.
In the other Group F match, China defeated Kazakhstan 43-17.
