President Nicusor Dan Thursday welcomed, at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace, visiting Moldova's Prime Minister Vasile Tofan, to whom he reconfirmed Romania's firm and consistent support for Moldova's European journey.
'I was glad to welcome today at the Cotroceni Palace the new Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Vasile Tofan, on his first foreign visit since taking office. We reaffirmed the privileged nature of the relationship between Romania and the Republic of Moldova and our commitment to continuing the development of joint projects, especially in the economic, energy and transport fields. These projects contribute to strengthening the resilience and prosperity of both countries and the entire region,' Dan wrote in a social media post.
He hailed the opening of the first negotiation clusters for the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union.
'I reconfirmed Romania's firm and consistent support for the European journey of the Republic of Moldova and hailed the opening of the first negotiation clusters,' the president said.
According to a press release from the Romanian Presidential Administration, in addition to the support for EU integration, Dan also underlined the support Romania provides to Moldova in terms of strengthening resilience and security.
In this context, a central point of the discussions was the complex security situation in the region generated by Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine and its consequences on the neighbouring states.
The two officials also discussed the latest developments in bilateral projects and ways to accelerate them, especially in the fields of transport and energy, essential for a better interconnection of the two banks of the Prut.
Dan and Tofan welcomed the recent signing of the agreement for the construction of a new bridge in Ungheni that will be part of the future connection with the A8 motorway, as well as the contract for the works on section 4 of the latter.
