Interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan said on Wednesday that the credit ratings of the rating agencies for Romania are influenced by political instability and by the statements that everything that was done was wrong and can lead to a 'worrying perspective', claiming that it came to this point not because of his fault, but because of the actions that the Social Democratic Party (PSD) has taken lately.

'In the formation of an agency, regarding the rating, after what happened in Romania in these months, you always have to ask yourself how you will be evaluated. Because the evaluations take into account two aspects: they take into account what happened up to the date of the evaluation, they take into account the political stability and they take into account the future perspective on, I don't know, 2027-2028. Or, obviously, we have started from 2025 from a very difficult situation, we have made some commitments to the European Commission, to our creditors that we will make certain deficit corrections, which we have made so far and we have respected. Since the spring, we have had the problems related to the delay in the approval of the budget, as a result of the scandal generated by the Social Democratic Party, the delays that there were. We had the fall of the government, an action that I said then, I say it now, was irresponsible,' Bolojan told Digi 24 private broadcaster when asked if he was nervous about the Fitch report that will be issued on Friday.

He added that there is also public rhetoric criticising the fact that reforms do not mean staff cuts, spending cuts, as well as how enormous imbalances could be corrected without any social cost.

Asked if Romania will be relegated, Bolojan said: 'I didn't say that, I say that any kind of evaluation, especially in the context in which you have political instability and statements that everything that was done was wrong, that there is money to increase salaries, that there is money to collect, that all these things must be done, can lead you into a situation where a worrying perspective is created about what will happen.'

'But we'll see. Obviously, it is not good to be in the situation we are in, but we have arrived here not because of my fault, but because of the actions that the Social Democratic Party has taken lately,' added Bolojan.
