The national specialised forest firefighting module is intervening in Var Department, France, responding to a major vegetation fire affecting the Ponteves area.

In order to assist the authorities in Var, it was decided to redeploy the Romanian firefighters who were initially stationed in Pyrenees-Orientales Department.

'During the night, the Romanian firefighters set up their operations base in the town of Correns, from where they were subsequently deployed to the field to carry out a firefighting mission. The mission aimed to limit the spread of flames near an access road, in order to secure it and ensure the conditions needed for the safe movement of firefighting vehicles towards the intervention area,' the Press Office of the Inspectorate General for Emergency Situation (IGSU) informed.

The Romanian module remains ready to intervene whenever the operational situation requires it, under the coordination of the French authorities. AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Daniel Alexandru Florea; EN - writing by: Rodica State)
