The fire aboard the Gas Lisbon tanker is under continuous monitoring and poses no risk to tourists, residents or activities along Romania's Black Sea coast, given the vessel's position about 14 nautical miles offshore and the current condition of the ship and its cargo, the Romanian Naval Authority (ANR) said on Tuesday.

ANR stated that the incident is being tracked 'under permanent supervision', with the authority working alongside other institutions involved in the national plan for response and cooperation in marine pollution cases. It reiterated that 'the safety of intervention teams is paramount' and stressed that, based on the vessel's distance from shore and its status, there is no danger to the public.

Through the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Constanta, ANR continues to coordinate monitoring efforts with all relevant agencies to ensure navigational safety and manage the situation effectively.

All 17 crew members have been rescued, and the three injured were transported to medical facilities for specialised care.

A fire broke out during the night of 20/21 July after an explosion aboard the Liberian-flagged tanker while it was sailing roughly 20 nautical miles southeast of Sfantu Gheorghe. The vessel had departed Alexandria, Egypt, and was en route to Reni, Ukraine, transiting Romania's Exclusive Economic Zone with more than 3,790 tonnes of propane on board.
