The 17th edition of the Romanian Film Evenings (SFR) festival will open on Wednesday, August 5, on Iasi city's Stefan cel Mare si Sfant Boulevard, with the preview screening of 'Atlasul Universului' ('Atlas of the Universe'), a film awarded at this year's Berlin International Film Festival, followed by a concert by 3 Sud Est.
Now in its 17th edition, the Romanian Film Evenings festival returns to Iasi with open-air screenings, special guests, theatre performances, concerts and events dedicated to Romanian cinema, built this year around the idea of art as a space for introspection and reconnection with the self.
Audiences will be able to watch, in preview, the feature film 'Atlasul Universului' (2026), directed by Paul Negoescu, recipient of a Special Mention from the Generation Kplus jury at the Berlin International Film Festival.
'Presented in its world premiere in Berlin, the film was one of eight international titles for children selected in the Berlinale Generation competition and was received with applause by the audience at Zoo Palast. It was awarded Best Film in the youth competition at the Sofia International Film Festival and selected for Cannes Écrans Juniors, at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival - the first Romanian film ever included in this section dedicated to young audiences,' the organizers said in a statement.
After the screening, at 21:30, the 3 Sud Est pop & dance band will take the stage for a concert.
'We are glad that 'Atlasul Universului' has its preview in Iasi before reaching cinema theatres, and that audiences can watch it as part of the festival. On the same evening, 3 Sud Est will step into the limelight with songs we all know by heart and that take us back to adolescence. We believe the entire event will be a form of therapy, for all ages,' said SFR director Andrei Giurgia. AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Daniela Malache; EN - writing by: Simona Klodnischi)
