Romania remains committed to expanding its role as a stabilising actor in the Black Sea and on NATO's eastern flank, supporting Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova and actively engaging in the Bucharest 9 (B9) format, in order to strengthen regional security and resilience, President Nicusor Dan said on Wednesday.

The Romanian chief of state was at a NATO summit, where he said that Romania respects its commitments as a member of the alliance.

He said in a social media post that this year Romania will reach a cumulative level of defence and security spending of 3.7 percent of GDP.

'We are working for the development of a stronger and more capable transatlantic defence industry. That is why Romania has joined the 'NATO Drone Edge' project, an initiative that will enable NATO member states to make joint purchases of drones. We also take increased responsibility for collective security, including through efforts to strengthen deterrence and incident prevention in the Black Sea region, in close cooperation with other allies,' the president added.

Dan also said that Romania will continue to invest, build and defend 'not only its own territory, but also the common space of freedom and security that NATO represents.' AGERPRES (RO - editing by: Antonia Nita; EN - writing by: Corneliu-Aurelian Colceriu)
