Wine producers are demanding the activation of the national anti-hail system to protect vine crops from hail damage, but the program necessary to restart the system can only be approved by a government with full powers, the interim Minister of Agriculture, Tanczos Barna, announced on Tuesday.

He had a meeting with representatives of producers in this sector to analyze the situation of the industry, the problems they face and the measures through which the Ministry of Agriculture could support producers.

'During the meeting, representatives of professional organizations in this sector firmly called for the activation of the national anti-hail system, in order to protect grapevine crops from damage caused by hail. The multi-annual program necessary to restart the system can only be approved by a Government with full powers. During the interim period, we are preparing the launch of the program in public debate and I reiterated my proposal to restart this system for a limited period (2026-2028), during which the most appropriate technological solutions for long-term crop protection can be analyzed and identified,' Tanczos Barna wrote on Facebook.

He said that the Ministry of Agriculture is analyzing the launch of support measures for the wine sector through the CAP Strategic Plan 2023-2027.

'At the same time, we are analyzing the launch of support measures for the sector as soon as possible, by opening project calls for interventions intended for the wine sector within the 2023-2027 CAP Strategic Plan, currently under analysis at the Ministry of Agriculture,' Tanczos also wrote on the social media page.
