Meteorologists have extended the coverage area of the code red warning of extreme heat to include 39 counties and Bucharest City, from a previous 35, out of a total of 41, valid throughout Wednesday morning.
According to the National Weather Administration (ANM), between June 30, 10:00hrs and July 1, 10:00hrs, there will be a red code of extreme heat in the provinces of Banat, Crisana, Maramures, Transylvania, Moldova, Oltenia and Muntenia, where highs close to the June record highs are expected and increased thermal discomfort, with the temperature-humidity index (THI) exceeding critical 80.
Highs between 35 and 41 degrees Celsius, with the highest values in Banat and Crisana, while the night will be tropical, with lows between 17 and 24 degrees Celsius.
Also, in the same period, there will be an orange heat wave code in the counties of Tulcea and Constanta, with increased thermal discomfort and the THI exceeding critical 80. Highs between 30 - 31 degrees Celsius, on the Black Sea coast and in the Danube Delta, and 37 - 38 degrees Celsius in the continental part of the region. Tropical night with lows of between 22 and 25 degrees Celsius.
On Wednesday, between 10:00hrs and 21:00hrs a code orange of intense and persistent heat will be in force for parts of the provinces of Banat, Crisana, Maramures, Transylvania and Moldavia. Highs between 31 - 32 degrees Celsius in eastern Transylvania, and up to around 37 degrees Celsius in northern Crisana and north-western Transylvania.
At the same time, a code yellow of heat will be valid on July 1 in Dobrogea and in the eastern half of Muntenia, where highs are expected to surpass the average for this date, with high thermal discomfort and the THI reaching critical 80. Daytime temperatures will vary between 31 and 34 degrees Celsius, lower on the Black Sea coast and in the Danube Delta, at 27 - 29 degrees Celsius.
