We will not accept to unconditionally support Sorin Grindeanu as prime minister, we do not want the country to be handed over to anyone and under any conditions, with our votes, and that is disturbing, the president of the PNL, the interim prime minister Ilie Bolojan declared on Friday evening.

He indicated that the proposal for prime minister of the PNL, USR and UDMR, Siegfried Muresan, 'was not agreed' in the discussion at the Cotroceni Palace.

'Today, the National Liberal Party presented its solution for having a new government. Together with USR and UDMR, we proposed Siegfried Muresan as prime minister. A man with great experience in European funds and budgets. He was not agreed upon in the discussion this evening at Cotroceni Palace. We decided that we would not accept to unconditionally support Sorin Grindeanu as prime minister. And I said that clearly, explaining why. It did not agree,' Bolojan wrote on Facebook.

He emphasized that the PNL did not promise 'a blank check' for Sorin Grindeanu, but a political agreement based on which a decision regarding the inauguration of a government can be considered.

'We did not reach an agreement. However, we found that Mr. Grindeanu only wants a blank cheque. We have been through a lot. And we have understood that in politics, too, there are no blank checks. PNL does not block. PNL remains consistent. We do not want the country to be handed over to anyone and under any conditions, with our votes. That is disturbing,' added the liberal leader.

President Nicusor Dan previously announced, on Friday evening, that the parties had returned to the 'political deadlock' after PNL had committed on Tuesday to vote for a minority PSD government, but later changed its position.

'We have returned to the political deadlock that on Tuesday we thought had been overcome. Based on the positions of the parties during the consultations, there was only one formula that seemed to have the support of a parliamentary majority: a PSD minority government. On Tuesday, the PNL committed to voting for a PSD minority government, with certain conditions regarding the governing program. From Tuesday to today, the PNL has changed its position,' President Nicusor Dan wrote on X social media.

The head of state mentioned that it is the responsibility of the parties to negotiate among themselves a majority for any government formula they consider appropriate.
