A single party in power must remain an episode in Romania's history, not its present, interim foreign affairs minister Oana Toiu (USR) said on Friday after the PNL (National Liberal Party), USR (Save Romania Union) and UDMR (Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania) nominated Siegfried Muresan for the office of Romania's prime minister.
In her view, it is vital to build on the progress achieved this year.
'A single party in power must remain an episode in Romania's history, not its present. We have solutions for that. USR's proposal was for a minority government supported on a rotating basis, and today the USR National Bureau approved the joint USR-PNL-UDMR nomination of MEP Siegfried Muresan for prime minister. We believe it is vital to continue this year's achievements in order to strengthen confidence in the reforms needed in Romania's public sector, as well as the confidence of citizens and international partners, and that is not something a single party can achieve at this point,' Toiu wrote on Facebook.
According to a joint press release issued on Friday by the USR and the PNL, the two parties, together with the UDMR, have nominated Siegfried Muresan for the office of Romania's prime minister.
'The PNL, USR and UDMR are jointly nominating MEP Siegfried Muresan for the position of Romania's prime minister. Romania needs a government capable of responsibly addressing the country's urgent priorities, including the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), the SAFE programme, fiscal and budgetary stability, and accession to the OECD, while continuing reforms and making the most of every opportunity for development in the interests of its citizens,' the press release said.
