The Sibiu International Theatre Festival (FITS) is 'a model of cultural diplomacy', used as an example in numerous international meetings, ambassador Simona Miculescu, Romania's permanent representative to UNESCO, said on Friday at the eighth edition of FITS Talks, where she was invited to a conversation with writer Marius Chivu.
'I've seen this festival grow. I am one of the most often mentioned fans and I think that words are not expressive enough even for me to describe how important this festival is for global cultural diplomacy, for cultural diplomacy in general as a concept, not to mention Romania's image. (...) This festival is extraordinarily important. (...) It is a model of cultural diplomacy. It is very important to make this differentiation and it is used as such, not only by us, Romanians, it already has such a global reputation, that it is used as a model in many international events and meetings,' said Miculescu.
The diplomat stressed that, by its international scale and prestige, the Sibiu International Theatre Festival promotes Romania's image in the world.
FITS brings together for ten days, throughout Sunday, June 29, over 5,000 artists from 83 countries and offers the public 848 events, eight more than in the previous edition, according to FITS Chairman, actor Constantin Chiriac.
