The postage stamp issue 'Be Smart and Say NO to Drugs!' ('Fii inteligent si spune NU drogurilor!'), consisting of a postage stamp and a first-day cover, will be released on Friday by the Romanian Philatelic Administration (Romfilatelia) and the Romanian Post.
According to a Romfilatelia press release sent to AGERPRES on Thursday, the issue is dedicated to the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
The stamp, with a face value of 9 lei, features original drawings by artist Dan Perjovschi in a restrained graphic style intended to warn of the dangers of human degradation caused by drug use. The artwork is accompanied by the slogan of the Romanian Police General Inspectorate's campaign: 'Drug trafficking destroys lives!' The message highlights the devastating effects of drug trafficking on individuals, families and communities, serving as a powerful warning and a means of promoting preventive awareness among the general public.
The word 'DRUG' featured on the stamp is graphically represented in a fragmented and unstable manner, suggesting the disorder and destructive effects associated with substance abuse. The letter 'O' is replaced by a circular symbol containing a shape resembling a syringe or a broken object, signifying the danger and degradation linked to drugs.
Each year, on June 26, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) marks the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in an effort to raise public awareness of the destructive power of drugs and of society's responsibility to safeguard the health and well-being of young people.
