President Nicusor Dan declared on Thursday that the suspension of the president is a 'very serious' measure, which is imposed only in situations where the Constitution is violated, but that he is not guilty of such a thing.

Beyond that, in the relationship with citizens, with sympathizers, former sympathizers, I may have made mistakes, but I want to assure them that I have always acted in good faith,' said Nicusor Dan during a press conference held during his visit to Poland.

When asked if he had made mistakes during the negotiations to form the government, the president replied that 'everyone makes mistakes,' but declined to provide details.



'Obviously, everyone makes mistakes. (...) It doesn't matter now. I mean, my interest is that these negotiations come to an end and I don't want to say things that will inflame things even more,' he said.

Nicusor Dan added that he wanted to get involved in resolving the crisis, through the two proposals for prime minister, although it would have been more 'comfortable' for him to stay away. Now, he is waiting for a solution from the parties.

'I made two proposals. The most convenient for me, to preserve my image... well, the advice of the consultants, 'stay away, don't get involved, it will turn out badly', right? I tried to help this process, twice. It happened, it didn't work out. Now, democratically, the parties should come with majorities in front of the citizens. But first, to get to the ballot box, to get to the second stage, we have to go through the first stage,' he specified.

When asked whether he had re-evaluated PSD leader Sorin Grindeanu—having participated in protests against him in 2017—Nicusor Dan replied that his responsibility as president is to appoint a prime minister supported by a majority.

'The question is, beyond my personal opinions, because if we were to work with my personal opinions, I would appoint 463 people to parliament, whom I like, and everything would be very simple. But we live in a democracy, in a democracy power is divided between the president, the executive, the parliament, the judiciary, you know all the formulas of democracy, and beyond my personal opinions about one person or another, I believe I have a responsibility to bring, to appoint a prime minister who can gather a majority,' he said.
