Romanian tennis player Gabriela Ruse on Tuesday unexpectedly defeated Czech Linda Noskova, the fifth seed, 6-1 6-3, in the first round of the Bad Homburg WTA 500 tournament in Germany, prize money EUR 1,049,083.

It took Ruse, 28, ranked 105th, 61 minutes to prevail over Noskova, 21, ranked 10th, who had won the German Open WTA 500 singles tournament at the weekend.

The Romanian qualifier managed no less than 13 aces, while Noskova did not take advantage of any break chance out of the two she had.
