National Liberal Party (PNL) First Vice-President Dan Motreanu said that support for the appointment of a government can only be negotiated transparently, through new consultations convened by the head of state and through a written agreement based on principles, 'not on improvised negotiations.'
'The government of traitors failed to secure Parliament's vote even after the designated Prime Minister humiliated himself before AUR [the Alliance for Romanians' Union] in a desperate attempt to obtain that party's support. The National Liberal Party did not vote for the [Social Democratic Party] PSD-Vestea government and announced that it will no longer govern alongside PSD. The government rejected by Parliament was controlled by PSD, with Adrian Vestea serving merely as a PSD puppet. Six weeks after the dismissal of the Bolojan Government, we still do not see a solution coming from PSD, the party that triggered this political crisis,' Motreanu wrote on Facebook on Monday.
The Liberal leader advocated a six-month political agreement as a solution to the current political crisis.
'The National Liberal Party has also indicated a way out of the political crisis: a political agreement under which the signatory parties would commit to respecting a number of conditions for six months. These include any government's commitment to assume responsibility in Parliament for projects under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, to maintain budgetary balance and to support investment programmes. If the parties were to sign such a national pact, there are two options that could be considered: a PSD minority government or a minority government formed by PNL, USR [Save Romania Union] and UDMR [Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania]. The Adrian Vestea Government was rejected by Parliament on Monday, with 189 votes in favour and 23 votes against, bringing the total number of valid votes cast to 212.
The vote on the request for Parliament's confidence in the programme and the full list of government members was conducted by secret ballot.
