Forta Dreptei (Force of the Right) Party leader Ludovic Orban said he no longer feels represented by President Nicusor Dan and is considering supporting the latter's removal from office.
'You no longer represent me. Do not be surprised if I soon come to regard you as the greatest threat to democracy in Romania and if I act accordingly. That means I will begin to support the need for your removal from the office you came to occupy by lying to us, the people of good faith in Romania,' Orban wrote on his Facebook page on Monday.
He said he had supported Nicusor Dan in his 'fight' against Social Democratic Party (PSD) members, whom he accused of having 'tentacles suffocating state institutions and state-owned companies', describing them as 'corrupt to the core' and responsible for creating a system that is 'suffocating' Romania.
Orban also said he had defended Nicusor Dan against members of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) and SOS Romania, whom he described as 'crypto-communists, anti-democratic and anti-European', promoting a discourse based on 'lies, hatred and violence', with the aim of imposing an 'illiberal' regime and bringing Romania back under Russia's influence.
He added that he had supported the president in the fight against former security service operatives whom he accused of seeking to control decision-making in the Romanian state without being held accountable for the 'disaster' they cause, as well as against what he described as networks of corrupt magistrates controlling the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM).
'What have you done over the past year? Not only have you not lifted a finger against them, you have allied yourself with them and want to govern alongside them. That is called betrayal - a betrayal of the people who believed in you and voted for you to become President of Romania. You did nothing to stop Savonea from becoming president of the High Court of Cassation and Justice. You appointed chief prosecutors and their deputies in no time,' Orban wrote.
He also reproached Nicusor Dan for keeping the same people at the helm of the intelligence services, although it was obvious 'to anyone with a minimum of common sense' that replacing them was 'vital' for reform.
'You remained complicitly silent in the face of all the disgraceful things that have happened since you became president. You secretly colluded with PSD to bring down the Bolojan Government and now want a government to be sworn in based on the votes of PSD members, SOS supporters, Georgescu supporters and AUR members,' Orban added.
