The 10 winning cultural projects in the 2026 session of the CANTEMIR Programme, run by the Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR), will be presented in nine countries: France, Germany, Portugal, the United Kingdom of Great Britain, the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Republic of Moldova, Sweden, the United States of America and Serbia.
The total budget allocated by the ICR for funding the 10 projects is 1,000,000 lei, the ICR Press Office informs in a press release sent to AGERPRES on Monday.
'Through the CANTEMIR Programme, the Romanian Cultural Institute continues to support the international presence of contemporary Romanian creation and to facilitate cultural dialogue across borders. This year's ten winning projects demonstrate the diversity, relevance and capacity of Romanian culture to generate authentic connections in the international space. In a global context marked by profound transformations, the message 'Culture Matters' reaffirms the essential role of culture as a factor of knowledge, cohesion and openness,' ICR President Corina Incrosnatu is quoted in the release as saying.
The CANTEMIR Programme - a non-reimbursable funding scheme dedicated to supporting Romanian cultural projects carried out abroad - contributes to the promotion of Romanian culture internationally and facilitates the development of partnerships between Romanian cultural operators and prestigious cultural institutions abroad.
The 2026 edition brought an important change to the programme structure by removing the traditional separation between visual arts and performing arts. The selection process for the 2026 CANTEMIR Programme highlighted the growing interest of Romanian cultural operators in the international promotion of domestic artistic creation.
In total, 52 cultural projects were submitted. Following administrative eligibility checks and qualitative evaluation, 10 projects were selected as winners and will receive non-reimbursable funding from the Romanian Cultural Institute.
The selected projects, identified under the 'Culture Matters' message, call for recognition and appreciation of the essential role of culture in society.
