Dragos Pislaru said the invitation to join PNL's leadership team came in response to the recent 'attack' on the party and attempts to destabilize it, noting that he resigned from REPER on June 19.

He emphasized that there had never been pressure from PNL to take a party card: 'At no point did the PNL Chair oblige me to become a member, nor was my role in government ever conditioned on party membership. My decision now, following the additional invitation to join the team supported by his motion, is very clearly linked to the recent attack on PNL and the attempt to destabilize it.'

Asked about a possible merger with REPER, Pislaru expressed public appreciation for the party he had just left: 'REPER was not built around a person, but around values. I would welcome a joint political effort for 2028, but such decisions belong to the party leadership.'

Ilie Bolojan won another term as party chair, running at the Congress with a team including Dan Motreanu for First Deputy Chairman, Robert Sighiartau as Secretary-General, and Deputy Chairs Mircea Abrudean, Ioan Popa, Siegfried Muresan, Oana Gheorghiu, Alexandru Muraru, Dragos Pislaru, Florin Roman and Gabriela Horga.
