President Nicusor Dan declared on Friday, regarding the political crisis in Bucharest, that he does not play the political parties' game and that appointing Adrian Vestea as prime minister was the option he considered most likely to pass in Parliament, given that the parties did not come up with a majority solution.
'I don't play the political parties' game, it's not my mandate. My mandate has several components. The two essential ones, given the situation we find ourselves in - maintaining the pro-Western direction and avoiding a sudden economic collapse. And then I had a try with Mr. Tomac. Based on the repeated information that I obtained in the dialogue with the parties, I was convinced that it would pass. I had some surprises and then I chose, without getting into a party game, the option that I considered to have the greatest chances of passing in Parliament, in the conditions in which none of the parties in Romania came up with a majority option. We are after six weeks in which no party has come to the president to say, following the discussions we had: here, a majority is emerging. And the Vestea option is the option that I 'We considered it appropriate to gather a majority and finally get out of this crisis, for the Government to have full powers, to close the process on the National Road Map and everything else,' said Nicusor Dan after participating in the European Council meeting.
He emphasized that in appointing Adrian Vestea he took into account the two objectives listed, namely maintaining the pro-Western direction and maintaining financial stability.
The President highlighted that Vestea has many qualities that recommend him, emphasizing that he has worked with many budgets, with European funds, and is someone who has had the ability to navigate the political environment without creating crises.
