More than 500 people will take part on July 1 in the reenactment of King Ferdinand I's visit to Sibiu and the unveiling of the Monument to the Officers Fallen for National Unification, marking 100 years since the original ceremony, Colonel Dumitru Todosiuc, Rector-Commandant of the 'Nicolae Balcescu' Land Forces Academy, announced on Friday.

'Over 500 people are involved in this event. A similar reenactment was held in 2018,' the Academy commandant said.

On July 1, 2026, a century will have passed since Sibiu hosted, in the presence of King Ferdinand I, Prince Nicolae, local authorities and leading figures of the Government and Army of Greater Romania, the solemn ceremony in which graduates of the 'Avram Iancu' class from all military schools in the country were commissioned as second lieutenants.

The same day, 100 years ago, also saw the unveiling of the Monument to the Officers Fallen for National Unification, dedicated to the infantry officers who laid down their lives for the national ideal in the First World War. The statuary ensemble stands on the grounds of Barracks 700 in Sibiu, at the former Infantry Officers' School No. 2, at the intersection of Victoriei Boulevard and Avrig Street.
